World Cup Format
It’s important to note that the FIFA World Cup format is broken up into two stages: the Group Stage followed by the Knockout Stage.
• Group Stage—In the group stage, the teams that qualified for the tournament are broken into groups containing four
teams each. Each team competes in a round robin tournament with the other three teams in its group. The two top
teams in each group advance to the Knockout Stage.
• Knockout Stage—The remaining 16 teams participate in a single elimination bracket pool. For those of you
familiar with the NCAA Basketball tournament, think of the Knockout round as the soccer equivalent to the Sweet 16.

Here are the rules for our World Cup Soccer pool:
• For the Group stage, pool members predict the finishing position of the top two (2) teams in all the groups and points
are awarded for correct predictions. Points are awarded for each correct team ranking in each of the eight groups. As
an example, one (1) point is awarded per correct ranking, members could earn up to 16 points in the group stage.
• To make your prediction for the top teams in each group, place the team in the corresponding line. For example, the
team that you think will finish in first for group “A”, write that team name on the line that says “A1”. For the team that
you think will finish second in group “A”, write that team name on the line that says “A2”
• Once the Group Stage advancers are predicated, finish out the brackets.
• Point Values
Correct picks for Round of 16 – 1 Point
    Correct picks for Quarter-Finals – 2 Points
    Correct picks for Semi-Finals – 3 Points
Correct picks for Final and Third Place Games – 4 Points
Correct picks for Overall Winner and Third Place Winner – 5 Points
• The goal is to be the member with the most points at the end of the World Cup Tournament.
• All Bracket Sheets must be turned in by June 13, 2018 at 7:00pm
Not feeling sure about your bracket? There are 96 games in the “Group Stage”. For each 6 games in the “Group
Stage” you watch at Kildare’s, you are eligible to change one of your “Round of 16” predictions. When you are in
the pub to watch a match, make sure you bartender/server marks your bracket sheet that you turned in. Come
into Kildares on June 29th, 2018 to make your eligible changes.
