As an Irish pub, we stock a wide selection of whiskey from around the world. To help guests wade their way through our diverse list, Kildare’s of West Chester is excited to introduce our whiskey flight menus.

Flights are an efficient—and tasty!—way to test a few beverages and decipher similarities and differences between the chosen drinks. Exploring several varieties in one sitting allows you to educate your palate on the flavors contained in different whiskeys and choose your new favorite. For example, some barrels may lend heavy notes of caramel or spice, while others impart flavors of oak and peat.

This is also a great way for novice whiskey fans or those thinking about trying it for the first time to sample without a huge commitment. A flight of several quality whiskeys allows you to explore the possibilities without breaking the bank. We invite guests to try one of our flights, and encourage them to make their own selections with custom flights.

Tasting craft whiskeys straight up or neat is ideal to fully draw out their complex flavors, which stem from unique malts and barrel-aging techniques. Very softly spinning the whiskey around the glass and picking up on aromas is the first step in detecting its rare properties. Sipping the whiskey and slowly swirling it around your mouth should introduce deeper flavors that were apparent in the aroma. Finally, you may detect a slight burn from the alcohol as the liquid dissipates over your tongue.

What you sense in the whiskey should lead you to conclusions about the types of whiskey you enjoy. Do you prefer the smoky peat flavors apparent in many types of Scotch, or do you enjoy exploring the varying levels of oak, vanilla and leather that different single barrel whiskeys deliver?

Our single barrel flight illustrates the different effects barrels can have on the liquid, while custom flights can take you on a journey around the world. To kick off our new whiskey flight menu, we are offering flights—ranging from $13 to $27—for 25 percent off every Wednesday. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about whiskey and get through the middle of the week.

Stop by for a relaxing evening as you educate your palate! Our friendly bartenders are here to help and share their knowledge for your tasting enjoyment. Make sure to ask them for more details and their own recommendations.
