At Kildare’s in West Chester, we take pride in offering a variety of options with a laid-back and friendly attitude. One of the best examples of that persona is our bartender, Colton Luciano, who pleasantly converses with guests, often about whiskey.

Colton Luciano, born and raised in Downingtown, has spent most of his life in the Chester County area. He began bartending a few years ago, and before joining our team about a year ago, he spent time at the nearby establishment Mas. In addition to working with us most days of the week, Colton is a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Colton gravitates toward our huge whiskey selection. Of working in our pub, he said, “the biggest difference for me was turning my focus to beer and whiskey, which is what really hooked me.” Past establishments saw him lining up limes and salt next to tequila—not really his thing.

While Colton has always enjoyed a nice whiskey, he also says working here has only helped him learn more. “Because of how much whiskey Dane [our owner] boasts there, there is just so much opportunity to learn about the wide variety. He also gives us the opportunities to take classes about Scotches, bourbons and Irish whiskies, which is a great learning experience.”

Personally, Colton goes for Irish whiskey, but he is getting into more bourbons and ryes. On the beer side, he says, “I prefer more bitter, hoppier beers, but I’m starting to enjoy more stouts and red ales.” At Kildare’s, we admit - it is hard to stay a fan of just one thing.

Colton also noted that – while he has a love for and knowledge of whiskey – many guests are able to offer insight into flavor and tasting. “Just noticing someone glancing up at our wall of whiskey is my introduction into talking to them about it,” he said. “I love guiding people, but honestly, 50 percent of the time it’s people guiding me and sharing their experiences with whiskey.” Those interactions are something we strive for at Kildare’s and we are proud that Colton is able to speak candidly about our assortment of whiskeys.

We’re also proud that Colton–as do many of our bartenders–enjoy the company of local regulars. We encourage a few drinks during the week after a long day at work, and Colton is there for many of them. He said, “Having regulars makes me feel way more connected with where I’m working. It makes it less like you’re stuck at work, and more like you’re actually enjoying yourself and talking to great people. It’s great to have people who come back often.”

With that in mind, stop by to meet Colton and the rest of our crew. Colton himself is here most nights, aside from Sunday and Tuesday.
